Akwa United defender, Matthew Etim has set his personal target ahead of the 2018-19 season.
The 29-year old right back, who is in his second season with the Promise Keepers, aimed to hit the back of the net, and provide vital assists to his teammates.
“I did not score any goal last season, so I want to score and assists more this season by the grace of God,” Etim said after training on Thursday.
The Homebased Super Eagles player, is hopeful the two-time domestic cup champions will secure a place in Caf Inter-Club competition this season.
“Last season we fought to make things go right [secure a continental spot], but the season ended unexpectedly.
“This season is going to be very good for us, because I’ve seen the qualities that have come around [potential signings] to train with us.
“I know with these crop of players, we will definitely get the continental ticket,” he concluded.
Also the Management of Akwa United Football Club have appointed experienced defender Godspower Igudia and winger Ubong Friday, as new Vice and Assistant Captain of the club respectively.
Chairman of the club Elder Paul Bassey made the announcement today, at the training complex before the team’s pre-season training session in Uyo.
Igudia and Friday will deputise substantive Captain Otobong Effiong, following the departure of former Vice Captain and Super Eagles defender Ariwachukwu Emmanuel.
Godspower Igudia is a national team player with the Super Sand Eagles (Beach Soccer Team), while Ubong Friday was part of the Super Eagles team that featured at the WAFU Cup tournament in Ghana last year.
The duo are the longest serving players in the club after captain Otobong Effiong.
