The Confederation of African Football has approved the Aper Aku Stadium , Makurdi , for the home matches of Lobi Stars in the 2019 CAF Champions League .
CAF Regional Coordinator/ Inspector Salisu Abubakar on Thursday inspected facilities at the stadium . Abubakar who was accompanied by ex- international Nasiru Jubril , expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the venue . He noted that there were still technical areas that needed to be put in order before the first game on November 27 .
“ I was never in doubt that the Aper Aku Stadium can host CAF Competitions . The general atmosphere of the stadium is good. The pitch is excellent and the dressing rooms are adequate,” he said .
The club ’s vice – chairman Mike Idoko said the club was working hard to represent Nigeria well in the competition . He said the team were already in camp in Ijebu Ode , Ogun State .
He said the team played some friendly matches in Lagos and Togo.
“We have also signed new players and negotiations with their clubs are ongoing . I therefore plead with clubs to assist us in facilitating the clearance of these players since we are going to represent the country ,” Idoko said .
The Chief of Staff to the Benue State Governor Terwase Orbunde , who is also the chairman of the Fund Raising Committee , said they were working round the clock to source funds to ensure Lobi win the competition.
Lobi Stars of Markudi will begin their CAF Champions League campaign against USM Loum on the on the 27th of November away in Cameroon before coming home to play the return leg on December 4th at the Paper Aku Stadium in Markudi Benue State.
