Governor Samuel Ortom has pledged sustained support for Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi in order to continually showcase the players’ talents to the international community.
He spoke yesterday at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi while receiving a trophy presented to him by the club which emerged super champions of Nigeria about a week ago.
The Governor expressed the hope that the club would also emerge victorious at the Confederation of African Football competition billed to commence in Yaounde, Cameroon next Tuesday due to its brilliant outings within the year.
He stated that the entire state was proud of Lobi Stars’ sterling performance in football, noting that the victory had created a moment of joy for a people who had not known peace since January this year due to herdsmen attacks.
The state Deputy Governor and Chairman of Lobi Stars Football Club, Engineer Benson Abouno, attributed the victory to Governor Ortom’s commitment to the team, citing payment of backlog of allowances owed players to motivate them.
He expressed gratitude to God for the Laurel won, promising to do more to continue to make the state proud.
Vice chairman of Lobi Stars Football club of Makurdi, coach Mike Idoko had earlier stated that the team defeated Enugu Rangers with a lone goal to lift the trophy which he noted was highly competitive.
