A goal from Caleb Ekuban helped Ghana to finish on top of Group F of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with nine points.
Coach Kwesi Appiah and his charges managed to beat the Harambee Stars of Kenya in the final qualification match at home on Saturday evening.
The Black Stars of Ghana inflicted a 1-0 defeat on the senior national team of Kenya at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The first twenty minutes of the match was balanced as both side threatened themselves with fearsome strikes.
Ghana nearly opened the score through Emmanuel Boateng but his shot on the 25th minute of the match went wide.
Captain Andre Ayew’s goal on the half-hour mark was disallowed by the referee as a foul was awarded to the Kenyans.
Winger Christian Atsu tormented the defense of the Harambee Stars on the stroke of halftime but Ghana failed to utilize their chances as the first half ended in a scoreless draw.
After recess, Coach Appiah made some tactical changes as he introduced Caleb Ekuban and Ernest Asante to replace Emmanuel Boateng and Jordan Ayew.
Ghana continued their impressive output with audacious strikes but most were denied by the Kenyan defenders.
A long range shot from Mubarak Wakaso was blocked by Joash Oyango as Christian Atsu was also denied on three occasions.
Substitute Caleb Ekuban powered the Black Stars to a famous win with his brilliant strike on the 82nd minute of the game.
Sassuolo midfielder Alfred Duncan also came on in the dying embers of the match to replace Andre Ayew.
The match ended in a 1-0 victory in favor of the Black Stars of Ghana.
