Retired Referee and treasurer of the Referees Association Of Ghana (RAG), Thomas has revealed some of the major challenges facing the referees concerning the normalization special competition.
Speaking to the Ghana -Accra based radio station, Zylofon FM, he disclosed the delay of referee’s allowance as the first major challenge. He says he expects referees to receive their money before embarking on their journey to match venues.
Security at the match venues is another challenge for referees” he added. He says referees have been attacked by fans of some teams in the on-going special competition.
However, he stated that referees have responsibilities to perform concerning the officiating of games. He says the referees are using the competition as an assessment for themselves.
“The competition hasn’t been too well” he said concerning some performance of referees at match centers. He says a lot of referees are average while some are below the belt.
He disclosed that the association would soon organise refresher courses for the referees in order to get excellent officiating. “It is one of the biggest challenges” he said.
