Nigeria Flying Eagles opened their 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Qatar.
The Flying Eagles dominated the game against a Qatar side that showed very little resistance.
Maxwell Effiong broke the deadlock after just 12 minutes as he volleyed home from a rebound off Captain Ikouwem Udoh’s shot.
Nigeria doubled the lead through Henry Offiah in the 24th minute as he pounced on Ikouwem Udoh’s brilliant cut back.
The Qatar side came back stronger in the second half with the aim of cutting the lead but it was the Nigeria side who netted two more goals as Manchester City midfielder Ayotomiwa Dele Bashiru made it three nil in the 68th minute before substitute Jerome Akor fired home Flying Eagles fourth goal in the 78th minute to silence the Asian side.
Nigeria’s next game will be against the United States on Monday, May 27, while Ukraine will play Qatar.
