Being a power house in Africa, the Super Eagles Of Nigeria started camping on the 2nd June towards the AFCON 2019. The 2013 champions would be in Group B and play against Madagascar, Burundi and Guinea.
Speaking to Ghana Accra Base Station Eye FM, Nigerian sports journalist, Samuel Sam Adeyemi revealed the preparations of the team. Talking about the squad, he revealed Coach Grenot Rohr has called 25 players. “We have so many players coming into the team including captain, John Obi Mikel who hasn’t played since Nigeria crashed out of the world cup against Argentina”. According to him, this is an opportunity for Nigeria to win the AFCON again.
Having qualified as top of their group, the renowned sports journalist revealed that Nigerians are hopeful of winning the tournament because their group has two debutants; Burundi and Madagascar. “Nigeria is the biggest team in that group” he added.
“It is so hard for me as an analyst and also as a fan” he revealed when asked about who he thinks would be dropped in the squad. He thinks Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester city would also be dropped considering his form for his club this season. He also thinks a defender or another striker would be the second person to be dropped.
“The government is in full support of the team” he declared.
