[Nigeria] FIFA Women World Cup: Late Penalty By VAR Denied Super Falcons Round Of 16 Qualifications

The Super Falcons of Nigeria failed to hold host to book a round of 16 ticket after conceding a late penalty.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria were able to host France in the first 45 minutes as both teams failed to record a shot target in the first half.

Nigeria chances of the taking the lead came in the 22nd minutes as Ebere whips the ball to the near post as the keeper takes it.

The French side also has couple of chances in the first half as Cascareno’s cross fails to arrive at the path of Gauvin.

The French team came back stronger in the second half as they put pressure on the Nigeria defence.

After a 1-0 loss against France, Nigeria are forced to wait to seal qualification to the Round of 16 of the Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria finished 3rd in the group after the result. The goal was scored on a retaken penalty by Reynard. Reynard had initially missed the penalty, but VAR revealed that Nnadozie had moved before the shot and the refs ordered the penalty to be retaken.

Nigeria need to wait on results from other groups in order to seal qualification.

The Super Falcons failed to qualify for the knockout stages in the last World Cup, back in 2015.
