Sierra Leone under 14 Football Team excel in Spain as they are currently taking part in the Donosti International Cup competition with over 500 teams from all the continents. This is the very first time in our country’s history under 14 football team is represented at International stage especially in Europe.
Prior to their first match, they won 5-1 in a friendly match in Spain and thair performance continues with a 3-1 win in their opening match yesterday against the host team: Spain. Despite Spain taking the lead in the 7th minutes of the match through Gorka Carrera, goals from Samuel Gandi in the 29 minutes and Daniel KOROMA in the 32 and 45 minutes respectively were enough for the young lads to grab their first three points in this competition.
After the match, the team was invited by the Local Parliament in Spain and they were applauded by some Spanish political leaders for their exceptional and phenomenal performance.
It is worth knowing that this trip was pionioneed by the Minister of Sports, Hon. Ibrahim NYELENKEH and supported by his Deputy Minister, Kai Lawrence Mbayo and the Director of the Sports, Dr. Kenneth BRIMA.
At the moment, this young lads from Sierra Leone are the centre of attention and discussion in Spain and they have attracted the attention of almost all the major Spanish Newspapers.
