[Ghana] Ghana Football Awards; Home-Based Player Of The Year

It is the countdown to the second edition of the Ghana Football Awards. The awards seek to reward football personalities who have raised the flag of Ghana high.

The Accra Marriot City Hotel is the place to be on 21st July 2019 as football personalities  are awarded in their various fields. Notable among these many fields is the home-based player of the year. Felix Annan, Mohammed Alhassan and Abdul Fatawu Safiu have been nominated for this award.


The Porcupine warrior has been one of the best players for Kumasi Asante Kotoko this season. This season has been one of his best in his career. He has saved Asante Kotoko several times this season. Guarding the post for his team in the CAF Confederation Cup, Annan made wonderful reflexes and saved many shots that were on target against Zesco United, Nkana FC and Al Hilal.

He was one of the reasons Kotoko qualified for the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup group stages where Kotoko triumphed over Kariobanji Sharks of Kenya and Cameroon giants Coton Sport de Garoua.

He was nominated in the 44th edition of the SWAG awards. Through his determination, he was called into the Black Stars squad for AFCON 2019.


The Hearts of Oak captain has been recognized for his hard work at the defence of the rainbow club. The former WAFA captain joined the Accra based club on December 2018 and has been a pillar at the centre back position.

He is known as the ‘Minister of Defence’ among the Hearts of Oak fraternity. He was part of the provisional squad Coach Akwasi Appiah listed for the AFCON 2019 tournament in Egypt. He led the team(Hearts) to the semi-finals of the NC special competition.


The centre-forward for Kumasi Asante Kotoko has also been nominated for the award. The former Inter Allies player joined Kotoko from Eleven Wonders on November 2018 on a free transfer.

The 24 year-old helped Kumasi Asante Kotoko in their CAF Confederation Cup campaign in the 2018/2019 season. He was part of the team that won the NC tier one special competition. He was also the second top scorer of the NC competition with 10 goals. He was also part of Akwasi Appiah’s provisional squad for AFCON 2019.
