ASTON Villa manager Dean Smith has heaped praise on new Zimbabwe signing Marvelous Nakamba saying the club was fortunate to sign him.
The English club announced the capture of the 25-year-old Warriors star last week- their 12th signing at Villa Park this transfer window.
The Zimbabwean international signed a five-year contract with the club paying Club Brugge more than £11 million. Egyptian forward Trezeguet and Wesley Moras also signed for Aston Villa.
“They are some of the players we have had our eyes on for quite a long time.
Trezeget for instance we went out to AFCON to watch him, we really liked him, spoke to him and he has real hunger and desire to come and do well and prove to everybody that he is a Premier League player and he is fitting really well so far, obviously…
Marvellous. a wonderfull name, he is a lovely lad, another one we have been looking at quite a lot, I have seen Brugge play a number of times when I was watching Wesley with also Marvellous playing in the same team as him and we really liked what we saw in him and we are fortunate to get both of the deals done,” said Smith in an interview on Monday.
Aston Villa are away to Tottenham in the first match on their return to the topflight, which kicks off in just under a fortnight, which would somewhat be a
tough welcome for Nakamba and Smith.
“I’m looking forward to the match, and giving everything for the club,” Nakamba said.
The Warriors star becomes the fifth Zimbabwean to feature in the English Premiership after goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar, Peter Ndlovu, Benjani Mwaruwari andTendayi Darikwa.
