The Black Meteors of Ghana drew with Algeria today at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg of the U-23 African Championship.
The visitors nearly broke the deadlock in the 5th minute but Kwame Baah produced a great save after Zakaria Fusieni committed a defensive blunder.
Adem Zorgane broke the virginity of the game after playmaker Farid El Melali did a solo work.
Captain of the Black Meteors, Yaw Yeboah had the chance to restore parity after Dauda Mohammed was fouled in the 18-yard box. Yaw Yeboah missed the penalty blasting the ball over the crossbar.
Left back, Gideon Mensah hit the woodwork following a low strike.
Two substitutions were done by Ghanaian gaffer, Ibrahim Tanko in the second half. Isaac Twum and Joel Fameyeh came on for Bernard Tekpetey and Joseph Paintsil.
Dauda Mohammed restored parity after he scored from 12 yards(penalty kick) following a tackle on him. The game ended in a scoring draw(1-1)
The return leg comes off on Tuesday, September 10 in Algiers. The winner qualifies for the tournament in Egypt.
