“#Zimbabwe” ZIMBABWEAN champions FC Platinum is confident of finishing off UD Songo of Mozambique and progress to the second round when the two sides meet in the decisive second leg of the Caf Champions League in a fortnight.
Never Tigere scored the only goal with a stunning free-kick on 23 minutes to ensure FC Platinum emerged 1-0 winners with an advantage as they head into the reverse fixture in Mozambique at the end of this month.
Lizwe Sweswe, who took over from Norman Mapeza who resigned in unclear circumstances last week was satisfied with the draw and remains optimistic.
“It was important to see how they play. The fact that we scored a goal gives us an advantage in the second leg,’’ Sweswe said.
The former Tsholotsho coach felt it would not have been easy to score more goals against the Mozambican champions.
“I think 1-0 is a win, we cannot expect to win by more than two or three goals when we are playing teams like UD Songo, they are the champions of Mozambique, so I am satisfied. Ofcourse we need to work on a number of things but this is a good result and we will go there to try and win the match. IT will not be easy but we are confident,’’ he said.
UD Songo coach, Nacir Armando, felt that they played well in the second half and did everything to find an equalising goal. UD Songo coach, Nacir Armando, felt that they played well in the second half and did everything to find an equalising goal.
