[Ghana]>Black Meteors suffer painful defeat in U23 tournament

Ghana’s Black Meteors failed to fly past the host nation of the Africa Under-23 tournament Egypt on Monday, despite taking an early lead.

The Ghanaian Olympic team took a 6th minute lead when captain Yaw Yeboah latched onto a beautiful ball from Samuel Obeng. However, the Egyptians drew level 11 minutes later with a thunderbolt header from striker Mostafa Mohammed to end the first half one all.

Soon after recess, Ghana restored their lead with striker Samuel Obeng pouncing on a loose ball following a defensive blunder on the part of the Egyptian defenders to make it 2-1 for the Ghanaians.

Egypt were denied what seemed a legitimate goal inside 52nd minute only for the assistant referee to disallow the goal by flagging for offside against Ramadan Sobhi.

Meteors ceased to play after going up 2-1 a minute into the second half and eventually succumbed to the Egyptian pressure and conceded the equalizer in the 76th minute when star boy Sobhi pounced on a goalkeeping error after Ghanaian goalkeeper Kwame Baah failed to grab the ball on a first attempt to level it for the host nation.

Ahmed Rayan completed a superb comeback win for the host with two minutes left on the clock after beautifully rising the highest to meet Sobhi’s corner kick to secure a well-deserved 3-2 win for the Young Pharaohs.

Ghana will take on Mali in their last group A game on Thursday 14th November.
