[Ghana] German Football Icon Lothar Matthäus Visits Ghana To Cap StarTimes Bundesliga Legends Tour

Germany world cup winning captain Lothar Matthäus visited Ghana today, Monday December 16, 2019 as part of StarTimes Bundesliga Legends tour.

In a Press conference which was held in Accra City hotel in Accra, Matthäus shared his experience in the Bundesliga under the watchful eyes of the Ghanaian Press and some religious followers of the German top tier.

Speaking at the gathering, the iconic German football chronicled his time in the colors of the Diemanchaft and how they had to sweat profusely in the 6-1 thrashing.

“We played against Ghana team in 1993 a home game in Germany Bochum and Ghana go ahead 1-0, we were shocked!!, Strong team, good players scored the first goal but before the final whistle, we won 6-1”

“I have a good relationship with Ghana. I was here 12 years or so ago, when it was an Africa Cup against Egypt and Ghana lost the final against Egypt 1-0. I was at the stadium. That was my first visit in Ghana.

He added, “I am very happy to be here again not only because of ex- colleagues, Sammy Kuffour, we played together, we had great time in Germany, he was a young player when he came 1993/1994 to Bayern Münich and he was positive always smiling. He is strong, he had the power, he liked to train and always wanted to be part of the first eleven. I am very happy as we know each other more than 25years. At the moment is nice to come back to Ghana to see my ex-colleague players from Ghana like Abed Pele, Tony Yeboah and many more

The former Bayern Munich then highlighted the class of football played in Ghana and why he many soon come back on such trips.

“Nice to be here because I know Ghana is a football country, they like football, they have passion for football and I hope soon, I will see Ghana there, where they like to be on the top.

Ghana has great team, great players and you know at this moment, we know Ghana football is no more like maybe 10, 15 or 20 years ago.

This is why we are here, we wish Ghana all the best and try to help to give our help to football in Ghana and also the power, the Knowledge and the experience from our side to our friends here in Ghana and also maintain the good relationship between Ghana and Germany football”.

As part of Matthäus three days visit to Ghana, Matthäus will pay a visit to the young talented football players and coaches at the Bundesliga football school in Accra on Wednesday. He will share his football experience with the players and coaches.

The Bundesliga football school, targeted at developing and promoting Young talents, will take place in Accra from 14-18 December 2019. It is partnership project between Deutsche FuBball Liga (DFL) and Star Times, the official Sub-Saharan.
