Tulsa announced on Monday that it had signed Akwa United forward Mfon Udoh and Lobi Stars defender Solomon Kwambe to its 2020 roster, Both players join who ply their trade in the Nigeria Professional Football League will join teammate Raphael Ayagwa who is also a Nigerian as the only three active players in the USL Championship with Nigerian national team experience.
A 27-year-old forward, Udoh brings a national pedigree of scoring goals from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL). Udoh is the only player in league history to score more than 20 goals in a season and his single-season record of 23, set in 2014, still stands. In 2019, Udoh became the only player to top the NPFL scoring charts in two different seasons when he scored 10 goals to co-lead the league.
Solomon Kwambe was part of the 18-man Nigeria squad for the 2013 Confederations Cup. and Kwambe was also part of Lobi Stars squad for the 2019 CAF-Champions League where they finished third in their group
“Joining the FC Tulsa family is one of the best things that will happen to me this year,” said Kwambe. “I believe more good things will follow and come to pass for Tulsa before the new season’s end.”
The additions of Udoh and Kwambe give FC Tulsa 22 players on the 2020 roster. The 2020 USL Championship regular season will kick off on March 7 when FC Tulsa travels to Sacramento Republic before opening up the home slate a week later on March 14.
