Ashgold SC have suffered their first defeat of the season by losing 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium in Match Day 5 fixtures of the Ghana Premier League.
Striker Kofi Owusu scored the solitary goal for his side and of the game to steal all three points for Berekum Chelsea on the road.
The first half saw both teams strategically playing to catch their opponents on the break which left the half without any proper incursions to goal.
It ended with little or no highlight or talking points to dwell on to give meaning Coach Yacubu Mambo and Joseph Asare Bediako will have to re-strategize in second half to open up the game to ensure goals are gotten.
Berekum Chelsea came in the second half with a strong approach to counter attacking football and much attention to remaining solid at the back.
Kofi Owusu made the first incursion of the game on the 48th minute where he struck a half volley on the edge of the box but failed to get the target.
He quickly latched onto to a howler by goalkeeper Frank Boateng on the 52nd minute when the latter failed to get full grabs of the ball inside the box to open scoring.
Ashantigold SC started pushing harder in attack to get the equalizer with attempts from David Abagna Sandam and Amos Addae but none could beat Ibrahim Danlad in post.
Emmanuel Osei Baffour, Evans Obeng and Amos Kofi Nkrumah came on later in the game to reinvigorate the attacking prowess of the home side but the defense of Berekum Chelsea remain intrepid to prevent goals from entering their net.
Defender Ahmed Adams had to receive the yellow card in protecting the team’s solitary goal lead on the 56th minute of the game.
Berekum Chelsea run away to Berekum with another away victory after 90 minutes making them have a record of three successive away wins against the three giants of Ghana Football; Hearts of Oak, Kotoko and Ashgold SC.
The result will keep them on top of the league log temporary barring the results from tomorrow’s encounters in Match Day 5 fixtures in other centers.
