The Zambia Women National Football Team made history on Tuesday afternoon by booking their place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
After eliminating countries like Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya to reach the last round of the qualifiers, the Copper Queens as they are called put smile on the face of football loving Zambians with an historical qualifications on Tuesday at the Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka.
The Copper Queens eliminated the Indomitable lioness of Cameroon on 4-4 aggregate to qualify for their first ever Olympic games.
Despite losing 3-2 in Yaounde, The Zambia ladies didn’t relent in getting a positive result at home as Mary Mwakapila open the scoring for the Copper Queens in the 15th minutes before Hellen Mubanga double lead seconds before the half time whistle.
The Indomitable lioness pulled one back in the second half but wasn’t enough as it was the home team whom sealed their place in Tokyo on away goals rules.
Cameroon will have to battle Chile on April 9th in Yaounde for a place in Tokyo with the return fixtures coming up a week later.
