Head of Super Falcons delegation to Ghana, Aisha Falode has charged the Super Falcons to go all out for victory and retain the trophy they won two years ago in Cameroon.
In an interview with Passion FM Sports correspondent in Accra , She said the defeat to South Africa in the first game was an eye opener which woke the team up in consecutive games they played.
“There is an adage in Nigeria and Africa that says thunder doesn’t strike in one place twice. South Africa did us a favour in the opening game by defeating us in Cape Coast, they made us realise every team coming to Ghana had one objective which is to defeat Nigeria, so we had to wake up, we repaired the damage against Zambia and Equatorial Guinea in a stunning way.
” The girls showed their character, resilience and determination against Cameroon and it only takes true Champions to be able to give you all these qualities on one stage at once. On behalf of the team, the President of Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Melvin Pinnick’s birthday is today, mine is tomorrow, that’s a more reason to win this trophy not only for us as a birthday gift but a Christmas gift to Nigerians”.
Falode, who is also the Chairperson of the Nigerian Women Football League thanked the Nigerian Football Federation led by Amaju Melvin Pinnick for the support given to the Super Falcons to excel in Ghana, as this has ensured they qualify for the World Cup in France next year.
“We really want to say thank you from the bottom of our heart, we say there will be no Super Eagles without the Super Falcons, you cannot have an Eagle without the Falcon, it takes two to tangle. When you sent me here, my first address to the team was that they should leave the business of the bonuses to us and do the business of football, so we shared the responsibility.
“They have delivered on their own part with the two missions that we have here, that is to qualify for the World Cup and also take back our trophy to Nigeria. This trophy is very important because you can’t come here as champions and go back without a trophy.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria will today tackle the Banyana Banyana of South Africa for a ninth AWCON trophy at the Accra Sports Stadium 4pm GMT/5pm Nigeria time.
